We support local food artisans who prepare foods that are natural without preservatives or artificial flavorings. We work with regional farmers who practice sustainable agricultural methods that are better for the environment and conserve energy. Local food tastes fresher and retains more nutrients. Local Harvest Grocery Wins Some Awards
In 2007, we received two honors that we are equally proud of and will brag on briefly...
In October we won the Missouri Coalition for the Environment's Green Business Award. We won not only because of our local food philosophy, but also because we use compostable packaging and grocery bags, we use energy efficient lighting and we have a recyling and composting program at the store that reduces our landfill waste considerably.
In November, we received a Kick Ass award from 52nd City. Enough said!
"Locavore" the word of the Year
The New Oxford American Dictionary has announced that "locavore" is the word of 2007, defining it as
"a person who endeavors to eat only locally produced food".
