About Local Harvest
We all love our food, but how well do we really know our food? Do you know where your food comes from, or how it was grown or processed? What do you know about the store where you buy your food?
At Local Harvest Grocery, we want to give you the information you need to be a knowledgeable diner, from start to “I’m finished.” After all, the story behind how your food is made and where it’s from is just as important as its nutritional information. We’ve found that the best way to get people to know their food is by providing it primarily from local sources. Our goal is that 50% of our products come from within 150 miles of St. Louis.
When you buy local, you know your food on three levels. First, you know that your food will be fresh because it’s picked at its ripest and doesn’t travel far. Second, you’ll know the food you buy helps support the community because we work closely with local farmers and ranchers. Finally, local foods require less fossil fuel to travel to your place, and we use recyclable materials and other sustainable methods to help reduce our waste.
It may not seem like much, but knowing your food means healthy, great tasting food for you and a stronger, greener environment for your community.

Cut Your Food Costs and Still Eat Well
At Local Harvest we recognize that budgets are tight and that tough decisions are being made in homes regarding food and other necessities. To help with your budget, we offer different staple items each week on sale at our cost or just slightly above our cost. From milk to eggs to coffee and even ground beef, we will be rotating the sale items each week. The savings are significant. Watch for our emails and window signs with sale announcements. (If you are not on our email list, you can sign-up here).
Products and Vendors
It is our goal to provide the highest quality food and personal care items from the St.Louis region. From grass-fed beef, pastured chickens and hogs to fresh produce and baked goods and gourmet dry goods. We scour the region to find producers of quality, unique products.
In addition, we also carry an extensive line of organic and sustainable produced groceries, including dry goods, a small bulk section, perishables, frozen, and non-food items. Click here for a partial list of our vendors.
Award and Recognitions
We are so grateful to be the recipient of several awards. We want to thank our customers who voted for us, or nominated us for these.
Local Harvest Grocery wins Best Grocery Store in RFT’s 2009 & 2008 Best of St. Louis Issue
With a goal to source 50 percent of its products from within a 150-mile radius of St. Louis, Local Harvest won't be the biggest grocery store you set foot in. Nor will it have the widest selection, but it will leave you feeling good about the choices you're making. Whether you're a carnivore looking to buy humanely raised meats or a vegan looking to broaden your diet, Local Harvest brings you the best our region has to offer, along with a thoughtful selection of staples that will ensure you're not making multiple stops to complete your meal.
The 2009 and 2008 Sauce Reader’s Poll named Local Harvest Grocery as the Best Gourment Grocery in St. Louis.
Nominated in 2009 by the St. Louis Business Journal as a “Hero of the Planet.”
St. Louis City Award
In October, 2007, we won the Missouri Coalition for the Environment’s Green Business Award. We won because of our local food philosophy and because we use compostable packaging and have a recycling program that reduces our landfill waste considerably.
In November, 2007 we received a Kick Ass Award from 52nd City. You have to see the trophy-it is truly Kick Ass. |
